| Readers Letter Question : I'm trying to find a desk to house my laptop and printer, but I want one that looks like a nice piece of furniture rather than office equipment. My laptop is also my music centre so my speakers need to go somewhere, and I write a lot so the desk needs to be comfortable with room for pens, paper etc. The only one I`ve seen is more than £1000.00. Any cheaper suggestions? George, London
Answer : Computers and monitors have moved on hugely in the last few years, but sadly, affordable furniture to house them hasn`t. It baffles me that 90 percent of home office furniture is so crude and clunky. A supplier however stocks a more refined selection: Home Office Design (www.homeofficedesign.co.uk) - see its Swing and Space models.

| Ideas for small spaces Think clearly : Transparent glass and acrylic furniture are great for a tight space as they take up less room visually than 'solid' stuff. The desk here is made from toughened glass. For compact sheer-topped desk, love the CM98 desk with aluminium legs.

| Ask a Designer Question : I`m looking for a simple shelving system for my bedroom. It`s quite a big room where I also tend to work, so I have rather an odd mix of clothes, notebook files and so on. Any suggestions ?. Colette, Leeds Answer : It sounds as if you need something pretty flexible you`ll have the option to change and add to over time. Some of the pole systems spring to mind. ...Option is available through Home Office Design (01259 212478 www.home-office-design.co.uk). They`re generally more stable fixed from floor to wall, but they can go floor to ceiling as long as you can get good secure points from which to fix it.
